Call for Applications: Common Curriculum Committee Chair Role

The University Senate Nominating Committee is hosting an open call for the Chair position of the Common Curriculum Committee (CCC). The chair reports to both the University Senate and the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs for a three-year term. The Chair need not be a Senator, and the chair is given 50% release time and provided with administrative support. Additional information about the role and how to apply is available on the here. Senate By-Laws Related to Common Curriculum Amended

During its regular meeting on February 3, 2025, the University Senate approved an Omnibus Resolution presented by the CCC+ Committee to amend the By-Laws, Rules & Regulations of the University Senate, Article II, C.2.a – d.

The Omnibus proposal included suggested changes to the following:

  • TOI  Clean-Up (TOI-6 lab requirement and Focus Area language)
  • 40-credit requirement
  • Reserve Caps (add 25% availability for 1000-level courses)
  • Catalog year (clarify language around additional flexibility)
  • CC exemption for transfer-oriented students
  • CCC+ membership (add Themes)

Article II.C.2.c.Courses (related to Reserve Caps) was amended on the floor. The Omnibus motion passed as amended. The full resolution can be found here. These changes will be reflected in the By-Laws, Rules & Regulations of the University Senate when they become activated in the fall 2025 semester.

Passed Resolution: Academic Calendar Update

The Senate Scholastic Standards Committee presented a motion to the University Senate during its regular meeting on December 3, 2024, to propose updates to the language of the By-Laws, Rules & Regulations of the University Senate to integrate governance of academic dates for both summer and winter programs. This change also codified Juneteenth (June 19th) as a non-teaching holiday effective in June 2025.

University Senate elections for the Spring 2025 semester will begin in late January for the following constituencies:

Faculty:

  • School of Fine Arts

  • School of Pharmacy
  • Regional Campus: Avery Point Faculty
  • Regional Campus: Hartford Faculty
  • Regional Campus: Stamford Faculty

Other:

  • Deans

All faculty or staff who are eligible to vote in each respective constituency election will receive a nominating slate via email in late January, and voters will be asked to select their top nominees. Nominees may also be selected by petition via email to universitysenate@uconn.edu. Any petition must be endorsed by five (5) members of the constituency in support of a candidate and submitted before the nominating slate has closed. The results of this nomination voting process will determine a shortened list of nominees to be sent out in early February on a voting slate. The results of the voting slate will determine the winner(s) for each election, and results will be published on the University Senate website.
