Budget Transformation Initiative Open Meeting Hosted by the SEC

The Senate Executive Committee (SEC) in partnership with faculty representatives to the Budget Transformation Initiative (BTI) Working Groups hosted an open meeting on January 21, 2026 to discuss the work of the BTI working groups. Attendees were also invited to ask questions and engage in discussion about the work of this initiative.

Upcoming University Senate Elections: Spring 2026

University Senate elections for the Spring 2026 semester will begin in late January for the following constituencies:

Faculty:

  • CLAS
  • CAHNR
  • School of Business
  • Neag School of Education
  • College of Engineering
  • School of Law
  • School of Nursing
  • School of Pharmacy
  • Regional Campus: Hartford Faculty
  • Regional Campus: Stamford Faculty

Staff:

  • University Support Services
  • Regional Campus: Hartford Staff
  • Regional Campus: Stamford Staff

Other:

  • Deans (now inclusive of Campus Deans)

All faculty or staff who are eligible to vote in each respective constituency election will receive a nominating slate via email in late January, and voters will be asked to select their top nominees. Nominees may also be selected by petition via email to universitysenate@uconn.edu. Any petition must be endorsed by five (5) members of the constituency in support of a candidate and submitted before the nominating slate has closed. The results of this nomination voting process will determine a shortened list of nominees to be sent out in early February on a voting slate. The results of the voting slate will determine the winner(s) for each election, and results will be published on the University Senate website. Passed By-Law Change: Academic Notice Wording

During a regular meeting of the University Senate on Monday, December 1, 2025, the University Senate passed a resolution to update language in various sections of Article II of the By-Laws, Rules & Regulations of the University Senate so that all language referencing “academic notice” and dismissal procedures matches the new language in Article II.E.13  passed by the Senate on April 1, 2024.

Passed Resolutions: November 3, 2025 Senate Meeting

During a regular meeting of the University Senate on Monday, November 3, 2025, the University Senate passed the following resolutions:

  • Motion to “pause implementation of the ABR By-Law Change passed on May 1, 2023 subject to the formation of an implementation-and-study committee as defined in 10/6/25 meeting materials.” The full motion language including final vote count is available here.
  • Motion to amend the By-Laws, Rules & Regulations of the University Senate, Article I.C.2 (Standing Committees) to include a Multi-Campus Committee was presented and passed by the required majority of 2/3rds. The full motion language including final vote count is available here.
  • Resolution to change the March 2, 2026 Senate Meeting to take place on Monday, March 9, 2026 to accommodate the Jewish Holidays Tannit Esther and Purim (meeting information is available here and all Senators have been notified)

Senate March Meeting Date Change: New Date March 9, 2026

As a part of New Business raised by Senator Ginsberg during a regular meeting on November 3, 2025, the University Senate voted to change the date of the March 2, 2026 Senate Meeting to take place on March 9, 2026 to accommodate the Jewish Holidays Taanit Esther and Purim. UConn Board of Trustees Passes University By-Laws, Article IX Changes Recommended by the University Senate

During its meeting on September 17, 2025, the UConn Board of Trustees passed recommendations to update the University of Connecticut By-Laws, Article IX governing the University Senate that had been put forward by the University Senate on April 15, 2025.

Important changes approved:

  • Changes to Senate Membership Constituencies, such as:
    • One additional seat added to the Deans Constituency to be reserved for the Regional Campus Deans
    • Faculty, Staff  and Student Representation updated to change in accordance with faculty and staff populations (1 seat for every 25 faculty members; 1 seat for every 125 staff members; 1 seat for every 2500 undergraduate or graduate students)
    • New constituency added for Staff titled “Support Services” to ensure representation of units not previously included in Senate staff constituency seats
  • Changes to SEC Representation & Chair Elections:
    • Total number of CLAS faculty representatives reduced from four to three
    • Requirement added to guarantee representation from a faculty member primarily based on a Regional Campus
    • New “Vice Chair” and “Past Chair” roles added to the SEC, bot h to ensure that the Chair is fully trained when taking the role, and to ensure there is consistency of information as leadership transitions take place. The role of Vice Chair of Past C hair is also designed to stand in for the Moderator as needed
  • Election protocols updated so that vacancies may be filled more efficiently both for the constituencies and SEC
  • Recusal rules added for Committee of Three
