Passed Resolutions: March 9, 2026 University Senate

The University Senate passed several resolutions to amend the By-Laws, Rules & Regulations of the University Senate during its regular meeting on Monday, March 9, 2026. Details and full resolution documents are linked below:

  • The Senate Scholastic Standards committee passed an amended resolution to update the Part-Time Dean’s List language (Article II.F.1). The full resolution is available here.
  • The Senate Scholastic Standards committee presented and passed by 2/3rds majority vote to amend the Senate By-Laws (Article II.E.1) to include updated language and a chart of information. The full resolution is available here.
  • The Senate CCC+ Committee presented and passed by 2/3rds majority vote to amend the Senate By-Laws (Article Ii.C.2.b) to remove language linking the Information, Digital, and Medial Literacy and Dialogue (IDML) competency directly within TOIs. The full resolution is available here.

Passed Resolutions: February 2, 2026 Senate Meeting

During a regular meeting of the University Senate on Monday, February 2, 2026, the University Senate passed the following resolutions:

  • Motion to amend the By-Laws, Rules & Regulations of the University Senate, Article II.A.1 (Admissions; Minimum Requirements) to update the way in which Mathematics requirements are described for admission to UConn. The full resolution can be found here.
  • An omnibus motion presented by the Senate CCC Committee to amend the By-Laws, Rules & Regulations of the University Senate. The full resolution can be found here.
  • A motion raised as New Business during the December 2, 2025 Senate meeting and tabled to discussion at the February 2, 2026 meeting. This motion was amended and approved as below by voice vote:
    • The Senate requests information on the effects of the University’s 5-year fiscal plan and changes in IDC allocations. We request information on changes that have already occurred, changes that are in progress, and changes that are anticipated to occur in the next two years.
    • Our request includes (but is not limited to) the following information, broken down by school or college and by campus:
      • Change (number and proportion) in filled tenure-track faculty positions
      • Change (number and proportion) in filled CIRE faculty positions and adjunct faculty positions
      • Change (number and proportion) in filled staff positions
      • Change (number and proportion) in filled graduate teaching assistant positions
      • Changes in the use of undergraduate teaching assistants (regardless of exact name used)

Budget Transformation Initiative Open Meeting Hosted by the SEC

The Senate Executive Committee (SEC) in partnership with faculty representatives to the Budget Transformation Initiative (BTI) Working Groups hosted an open meeting on January 21, 2026 to discuss the work of the BTI working groups. Attendees were also invited to ask questions and engage in discussion about the work of this initiative.

Upcoming University Senate Elections: Spring 2026

University Senate elections for the Spring 2026 semester will begin in late January for the following constituencies:

Faculty:

  • CLAS
  • CAHNR
  • School of Business
  • Neag School of Education
  • College of Engineering
  • School of Law
  • School of Nursing
  • School of Pharmacy
  • Regional Campus: Hartford Faculty
  • Regional Campus: Stamford Faculty

Staff:

  • University Support Services
  • Regional Campus: Hartford Staff
  • Regional Campus: Stamford Staff

Other:

  • Deans (now inclusive of Campus Deans)

All faculty or staff who are eligible to vote in each respective constituency election will receive a nominating slate via email in late January, and voters will be asked to select their top nominees. Nominees may also be selected by petition via email to universitysenate@uconn.edu. Any petition must be endorsed by five (5) members of the constituency in support of a candidate and submitted before the nominating slate has closed. The results of this nomination voting process will determine a shortened list of nominees to be sent out in early February on a voting slate. The results of the voting slate will determine the winner(s) for each election, and results will be published on the University Senate website. Passed By-Law Change: Academic Notice Wording

During a regular meeting of the University Senate on Monday, December 1, 2025, the University Senate passed a resolution to update language in various sections of Article II of the By-Laws, Rules & Regulations of the University Senate so that all language referencing “academic notice” and dismissal procedures matches the new language in Article II.E.13  passed by the Senate on April 1, 2024.
